Stories for Stigma Reduction
Stigma reduction is one of our core aims at Mad Stories. This involves:
- Eliminating self-stigma – changing the way people with a mental illness see themselves so they do not internalise false beliefs.
- Reducing social stigma – eliminating negative labelling by Australian society.
- Helping with label avoidance – encouraging people to reclaim words like ‘mad’ and assisting those who reject a diagnosis and do not seek treatment.
We need your help to reduce stigma by avoiding stereotypes, ending discrimination and correcting those who stigmatise. Sharing true stories of mental illness will reduce stigma. We aim to influence workplaces, campuses, media and the arts to change the way all Australian see mental illness.
